The Disease
General Information
The COVID-19 infection is caused by a novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Coronaviruses are enveloped RNA viruses that are commonly distributed among humans, other mammals, and birds. The virus can cause respiratory, enteric, hepatic, and neurological diseases. There are six strains of coronavirus species known to cause human diseases, four of which are prevalent and typically cause common cold symptoms in immunocompetent individuals. Two other strains are zoonotic in origin and can cause fatal illnesses, namely the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV). Novel coronaviruses are likely to emerge in humans due to many factors, such as: high prevalence, wide distribution, large genetic diversity, and frequent genome recombination of the virus. While the majority of individuals with the COVID-19 experience mild to moderate symptoms, severe illnesses can occur and even cause death.
Preventions
As a disease caused by a novel coronavirus, there have yet been any vaccines or specific antiviral medicine for the treatment of the COVID-19. Prevention stands at the utmost importance to protect yourself and others against the virus. Frequent hand washing or use of hand sanitizers, covering your cough or sneezes, and wearing protective equipment near people who are infected are some of the most important steps of prevention. Rapid testing in communities is also important to ensure quick isolation for people infected. The COVID-19 IgG/IgM Rapid Test Kit can detect the infection of SARS-CoV-2 in 10 minutes with more than 99% accuracy. The availability of fast, easy to use and accurate testing enables efficient screening among suspected patients.
COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Antigen Rapid Test Kit FAQs
What are the symptoms of COVID-19 infections?
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, dry cough and tiredness. Some individuals might experience other symptoms such as runny nose, nasal congestion, sore throat, diarrhea, and aches and pains. Around 1 out every 6 people infected will experience serious illness with symptoms of breathing difficulty.
How does the COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test Kit work?
The COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test is an immunochromatographic membrane assay that uses highly sensitive antibodies to detect SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein from nasal swab or nasopharyngeal swab specimens. SARS-CoV-2 specific antibodies are immobilized onto the test region of the membrane and combined with other reagents/pads to construct a test strip.
During testing, the specimen reacts with anti-COVID-19 antibodies conjugated to colored particles and
precoated onto the sample pad of the test. The mixture then migrates upward on the membrane
chromatographically by capillary action and reacts with the reagents in test line region. Therefore, if the
specimen contains COVID-19 antigen, a colored line will appear in test line. If the specimen does not contain COVID-19 antigen, no colored line will appear in the test line regions, indicating a negative result. To serve as a procedural control, a blue colored line will always appear in the control line region, and the blue color will change from blue to red during testing indicating that the proper volume of specimen has been added and membrane wicking has occurred.
