More Information About The Test and Syphilis
AccuQuik™Syphilis Test Kit is a chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of antibodies raised against treponema pallidum, in human serum or plasma. Diagnosis consists of a one-step test that takes approximately 15 minutes to provide a result. The test requires a blood sample.
In the case of a positive result one should consult with a doctor to consider the first stage of treatment. Users who test positive should also abstain from sexual intercourse until the infection is gone.
The syphilis diagnostic test kit has been shown to be accurate in 99% of cases, clearly demonstrating its reliability. Certain medical factors may influence the result of the test, for instance if one is pregnant, allergic to medicines, or taking other medication, then a doctor should be consulted before taking the test.

The Disease
General Information
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection caused by the bacteria treponema pallidum. The disease is highly contagious however infected individuals are often unaware of the infection. The infection occurs in three stages. The primary infection manifests 10-90 days following exposure and causes small painless sores commonly in the genital region or around the mouth. The secondary infection lasts up to three months and causes a rosy “copper penny” rash on the palms and feet, groin warts, swollen lymph glands, fever, and weight loss.
The final stage of infection can lead to more severe problems with the heart, brain, and nervous system, leading to paralysis, blindness, dementia, deafness, impotence, and death.
Syphilis can be prevented by avoiding intimate contact with infected individuals or using a condom. Although the prevalence of syphilis has declined dramatically since the development of penicillin in 1940, the disease still has a significant presence in sub-Saharan Africa, contributing to 20% of prenatal deaths.
The disease is projected to decline in future years, with several vaccines for syphilis treatment in development. Before the millennium, approximately 12 million people were infected with syphilis/ However, recently the rate of infection has dropped dramatically. Statistics show that males are more susceptible. If left untreated the mortality rate of the disease is between 8% and 58%, emphasizing the importance of getting checked and getting syphilis treatment.
Syphilis Treatment
The choice of syphilis treatment depends on the time since infection. If the individual has been infected for less than one year then a single dose of penicillin, tetracycline, doxycycline or another suitable antibiotic is sufficient for the syphilis treatment. If the individual has been infected for over a year then multiple doses of the antibiotic will be required.
